Chairman’s Note
Welcome to the Winter edition of our magazine.
As the nights get dark and finally the temperature drops, we now look forward to Christmas and dare I say it 2026. 2025 has been, for us a quiet year, working behind the scenes to try to move things forward.
The heritage Shore Road lights are now being taken away (5 of them) for the next section to be renovated. Summer concerns
about birds and tourists delayed the start but with these now underway we are working to try to secure funds for the final 8,
which includes the replacement, rather than refurbishment, of 2 of the units. When done it is hoped that the bay will be restored to its former splendour – it terms of the lights anyway.
The society has also been asking questions about flying the Poole Flag on the Quay, a simple question but after months still
no response from BCP. Also, the Falklands plaque, which with the positive nod of the veteran’s association we now believe we
can work towards placing it in Falklands Square. Well placing may not be the word when we are talking about a 70 stone piece
of iron. Again, there is still much to do with BCP and the Dolphin Centre to coordinate and pay for the wall upon which it can be placed.
We also had our stall on the Quay for Harry Paye day and gave away 200 small Poole flags, opened up the Guildhall and had a
wonderful annual lunch at the RMYC, whilst also supporting the move to a Town Council for Poole to try to get some independence back to the town so heritage projects and events can be supported locally.
2026 will come up fast, we, as a Society, will be into our 102nd year and whilst it has been increasingly difficult to be heard by BCP it is considered that the voice of us as a Civic Society has never been so important.
Thanks for the support of everyone and I look forward to continuing to see everyone at our talks and events
